Communications & Cultural Competence Program: The Communication & Cultural Competence (CCC) Program is designed for use by physicians who are unfamiliar with medical practice in Canada, or Canadian-trained physicians wishing to learn more about professional competencies. The Program presents the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) objectives that are most likely to be unfamiliar or difficult to understand by physicians not trained in the Canadian system. Additional information is available on the CCC website.

Ontario: HealthForceOntario’s Access Centre for Internationally Educated Health Professionals and the Centre for the Evaluation of Health Professionals Educated Abroad (CEHPEA) (27 June 2007; updated 05 September 2007):
In May 2006, Ontario announced HealthForceOntario (HFO), the new health human resources strategy designed to meet three priority goals: making Ontario more competitive, maintaining and developing a competitive workforce, and establishing new and expanding roles in areas of high need.
A key component of this strategy was the December 2006 launch of the HealthForceOntario Recruitment Centre (HFO-RC), a new Crown agency, which offers personal, one-to-one help for practice ready health professionals and their families who want to relocate to Ontario. Case managers are available to assist individuals in navigating their entry into the Ontario practice environment. For professionals who require additional training or assessment, the HFO-RC also includes the Access Centre for Internationally Educated Health Professionals. The Access Centre assists key health care professionals, with an initial focus on IMGs, to find the most effective path to professional practice in Ontario. It provides intensive case management services to help meet needs such as language requirements, qualifications assessment and immigration information.
In addition, CEHPEA, a new not-for-profit organization funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, officially opened on April 19, 2007 to provide standardized evaluation and orientation services to internationally educated health professionals, with an initial focus on IMGs. Formerly, these services were provided by IMG Ontario.

Physician Credentials Registry of Canada – New Credentials Source Verification Service
(2 July 2007)
The Physician Credentials Registry of Canada (PCRC), a division of the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), has been established to provide a centralized repository of a physician’s core medical credentials which have been source-verified. It is designed to reduce duplication of effort for medical graduates by gathering, verifying and permanently storing their credentials, which have been submitted over time, in a single repository. For additional information about PCRC, visit the New Credentials Source Verification Service - Physician Credentials Registry of Canada.
Foreign Credentials Referral Office (12 June 2007):

British Columbia (14 February 2007):
The IMG-BC website and on-line application system has been moved to www.imgbc.med.ubc.ca
Manitoba (September 16 2006):
The Government of Manitoba and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba approved changes to the assessment process for international medical graduates (IMGs). The changes have been designed to enhance the ability of IMGs to practise medicine in rural and northern Manitoba by providing additional support and easing the transition into the new practice environments.
The new process will include:
• a pre-employment interview to help identify previous clinical experience that will match the candidate to successful practice in rural and northern communities;
• an orientation to the Manitoba health-care system and a three-day classroom assessment process; and
• a 12-week clinical placement in a rural centre, followed by an ongoing mentorship relationship with an experienced local physician.
The new process will replace the previous assessment process, the 3-day Clinicians Assessment and Professional Enhancement (CAPE). IMGs who have already been referred to the existing assessment will continue with that process. Future applicants will be assessed under the new process, beginning early in 2007.
