Certificate
of Registration for Independent Practice >>
In Ontario, in order to be granted a Certificate of Registration for Independent Practice,
the medical graduate must have:
Medical Credentials: A medical degree from
an accredited Canadian or U.S. medical school or from an acceptable medical school listed
in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
LMCC Qualification: Parts I and II of the Medical Council of Canada
Qualifying Examination.
Certification: Certification by examination by either the Royal College
of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the College of Family Physicians of Canada
(CFPC).
Postgraduate Training Component: Completion in Canada of one year of
postgraduate training or active medical practice or completion of a full clinical
clerkship at an accredited Canadian medical school.
Legal Status: Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
Restricted
Certificates of Registration>>
The College issues restricted certificates of registration, in certain
circumstances, to individuals who have not successfully completed all of the examination
requirements.
Doctors of Osteopathy >>
The College recognizes the Doctor of Osteopathy degree
granted by American Osteopathic Association-accredited osteopathic schools as equivalent
to the degree in medicine granted by accredited medical schools in Canada or the United
States.
Certificate
of Registration for Postgraduate Education >>
In Ontario, in order to be granted a Certificate of Registration for Postgraduate
Education, candidates must begin by applying to the CPSO for a certificate of registration
authorizing enrolment in a Pre-Entry Assessment Program (PEAP) that must be between four
and twelve weeks in duration.
If PEAP is completed successfully, the College issues a Postgraduate
Education Certificate authorizing enrolment in a residency. The CPSO will
initiate the process to access the national certification examinations to obtain formal
certification upon successful completion of the training.
